Over the years I have become pretty brave in the kitchen. I don’t try anything too weird, but I am totally willing to experiment a bit with different types of flours, new-to-us-veggies, and even a few authentic foreign dishes from time to time.
Recently for Family Fun Night I decided to try an old favorite that we have not had in a while, except I made a gluten free version since I am no longer eating wheat.
Here is the recipe for an easy and delicious family dinner.
Gluten Free Cheeseburger Pizza
Pizza crust of your choice. I happened to use an old favorite from an Amish cookbook I have, but I subbed in King Arthur gluten free flour for regular.
Browned and drained ground beef, about a pound.
Cheddar cheese, 3/4 grated…use more or less to suit your family’s taste.
*Optional toppings: pickles, mayonnaise, mustard, ketchup, lettuce, tomato, raw or grilled onions
1. Bake pizza crust as directed, subbing in gluten free flour as needed.
TIP: Place browned ground beef atop crust before baking. This helps to hold the beef in place since there is no sauce in use with this pizza.
2. When pizza is done, sprinkle cheese on top and bake for 3 to 5 more minutes or until the cheese is melted.
3. When serving, allow family members to use the above-mentioned toppings to create their own specialty “cheeseburger” pizza, just as they would if dining out at Five Guys.
Feel free to serve your pizza alongside baked fries, potato chips, or your family’s favorite vegetable!
Have you ever prepared a non-traditional pizza at home? What kind was it and did you enjoy it? Share in the comments!
