When you are feeling overwhelmed and afraid, God can give you His peace. In fact, He says in His word that He has already given it to us, and He tells us not to fear.
For me, sometimes there are circumstances in my life, with friends and family members, often with my children and husband, when I will become fearful. I will have concerns about the future…how certain behaviors or disobedience in my children will play out in their futures and mine; how my husband’s decisions will affect our family; how the relationships between us and family members will remain strong or grow stronger when we have such a physical distance between us.
But, this verse. It reminds me that God is not like us. He is not like the world and He does not give to us as the world does. I do find comfort in that. Though my human mind cannot truly comprehend all that He is, I am continually growing to know Him more. More about His character, more of His love, more about His just ways, and more of His compassion. How much more than me does He love my children? My family members and our relationship? My husband and how he takes care of us?
So, I can read this verse and I do find peace.

I will grab onto this command that I not be afraid, not to let my heart be troubled. Because, let’s be honest, it is what I do! I spend time fretting when I shouldn’t, when I just need to realize early on that God is in control. That no matter what that may look like, Him in control is way better than me in control. I will botch things, God will not.
So I’m holding onto His promised peace.
