Today is the last day of my 31-day series of God-breathed Scripture to Encourage the Broken-hearted! I must say I am sorry it’s over. I’ve been so encouraged myself, and I’ve grown closer to the Lord, through this daily delving into the scripture. I have enjoyed so much finding what He had for me to share (and to learn) about who He is and what He promises us, in our broken-heartedness and always.
I felt like to day should be a day of Thanksgiving. We are about to enter the month of Thanksgiving, when we will all spend more time thinking about and expressing what it is we are thankful for in our lives. But I felt that really, we should spend more time being thankful all year long for the many blessings we enjoy from our God who loves us!
This verse from the Psalms is a beautiful reminder to me to be thankful in everything. Though this can be a tough ‘pill’ for us to swallow sometimes. I mean, who is thankful for losing a child, for cancer, for relationship struggles, for past abuse? Most of us are not thankful for those things. However, I have learned that we can be thankful in the midst of these troubles. It’s a mindset that we can have.
I have watched friends around me suffer through breast cancer, the death of a child, the loss of a parent or sibling, or living with a difficult, years-long illness, and they still exhibit the joy of the Lord and thankfulness to Him through their struggles on a daily basis! For me, this is an encouragement that I can get through the tough patches in my relationships and that God will be with me, even through the loss of a family member or an incurable illness. He does not promise that we will not suffer.
He does promise to walk with us through the suffering.
And for that I am thankful.
